Two weeks advance notice is requested for out-of-town medical appointment rides. Please call in reservations for rides to medical appointments as soon as you make your appointment.
When you call in your ride reservation, please be prepared to tell us:
- Your name
- Your address
- Your telephone number
- Your destination
- The day and, if applicable, the time of the appointment
- Where you will be waiting for the driver (front/back door, community building, etc.)
- Whether you use a wheelchair, electric scooter or will have an escort riding with you for assistance.
Out-of-Town ServiceWhen volunteers are available, Enfield Dial-A-Ride offers its members out-of-town service for medical appointments to a variety of locations, including Springfield, Hartford, and Windsor. Service is provided through volunteers who utilize Town of Enfield office cars to provide transportation. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate wheelchairs for this service. A small donation is requested for this service.
Please schedule out-of-town rides at least two weeks in advance to allow us time to find a volunteer to provide transportation. Unfortunately, due to the limited volunteers, we may not be able to provide transportation to all appointments. We will call you as soon as we know whether we can provide transportation for an appointment or not.
Please be ready for pick up 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Our goal is to deliver you to your appointment on time. When the driver arrives, she or he will beep the horn and wait for you at the curb. Drivers will not use the driveway for safety considerations. Please respond promptly to the bus horn. All passengers are required to wear seat belts by law.
Passengers requiring assistance may bring an escort with them. Escorts ride for free. Please let us know you will bring an escort with you when you call to reserve your ride. If requests for Dial-A-Ride service exceed our capacity on a given day, we may need to limit rides. We prefer that grocery purchases are limited to 2 bags per person. The driver will not be able to help you carry your purchases.
Cancellation of Services
Please call Dial-A-Ride as soon as possible if you cannot use the ride you have scheduled. Sometimes, bad weather, bus breakdowns, or unexpected delays make it necessary for us to cancel your scheduled ride. When the Enfield Public Schools are cancelled due to ice and snow, the Enfield Dial-A-Ride service will also be cancelled. We may end a service day earlier than planned if bad road conditions occur or if there is a forecast of bad weather conditions.
Dial-A-Ride does not operate on federal holidays. These are: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Ice & Snow
When the Enfield Public Schools are closed due to ice and snow, Dial-A-Ride service is cancelled. When bad road conditions occur or a forecast of bad road conditions occurs, a service day may be shortened. Please listen to 1080 WTIC radio or watch local NBC stations for up-to-date cancellation information.
